Letter to the Editor, from Kate Mason, Peacemaker Award Committee member
Greenfield Recorder, December 16, 2020
This spring, like the past 20 springs, the Traprock Center for Peace and Justice along with the Interfaith Council of Franklin County will celebrate teenagers who are Peacemakers. We invite teachers, mentors, counselors and parents to nominate their high school-aged youth in the Franklin County area who have made or are making a contribution to peace and social justice.
Over the years we have had innovative projects of a wide variety such as Training Active Bystanders, serving community meals, writing antibullying pledges, creating a video about a detention center in Texas or organizing rallies. Each awardee will be honored and receive a certificate and small stipend.
This year we are looking back also. We would love to hear from former honorees (or their parents) about their continuing work in promoting peace and social justice in our larger community.
We hope for an in-person ceremony this spring, but like this past spring, we may have to celebrate these teens virtually and in the Recorder.
Contact Tamara Kaplan tmk1162@gmail.com or Marcia Miller at marcia.miller65@gmail.com if you have questions or nominees. Nomination forms will be sent to schools in February
