I want to thank the Recorder for covering the effort to pass a cease-fire resolution in Greenfield and the weekly standouts on the Common [“Local activists to present Gaza cease-fire resolution to Greenfield City Council,” Feb. 15]. I think the news media generally has not given enough attention to the opposition to the United States’ support for Israel, with the Biden administration and our Massachusetts senators supporting sending billions of taxpayer dollars and weapons to fuel the Israeli military.
As a Jewish American, I know it is not antisemitic to criticize the Israeli state and its military actions. There is a dire need to raise our voices to stop the death, destruction, and displacement that continues despite the International Court of Justice ruling that it is plausible that Israel’s acts amount to genocide and their orders that Israel take all measures within its power to prevent genocidal acts.
And beyond a cease-fire, we must push to end the ongoing occupation, blockade, and apartheid.
