Teen activists on: Bridging the Borders, Wendell multi-media presentation
Come to Wendell Library (7 Wendell Depot Rd.)to learn about the front lines of immigration injustice through the eyes of local young activists. Bridging Borders and Barriers, a multi-media presentation on Sat. Nov 23 from 4 to 5:30 pm, features a short original documentary, a poetry and prose reading, and an informative discussion, including action steps you can take to help.
Activists, 17-year-old writer Maya Laur from Wendell and 14-year old photographer/videographer Mason Wicks-Lim from Montague are presenters. Maya will share her vivid and powerful prose and poetry, inspired by her experiences with the non-profit RAICES, supporting asylum seekers who had just been released from detention.
Mason will share about his time this summer witnessing, with his mother and sister, outside the immigrant detention center Homestead in Florida, which was holding children separated from their families. He created a poignant and educational short documentary about his experience with photographs and videos taken along his journey.
Please come to learn more about this critical issue and how we can be inspired by these young people and their families to make a difference!
