Resistance Film on Kurds

November 13 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

“Documentaries about Rojava” show a Kurdish democratic  community in the middle of the Syrian chaos, that was abandoned by U.S. forces after years of support. Rojava is home to four million Kurds, Arabs, Syrians and other people who lived there peacefully and with a surprising “social contract”: gender and economic equality with direct democracy – in a Middle East that is still very much male chauvinistic, multi-ethnic and anti-secularism.

Prof. Ahmad Mohammadpour, a Kurdish scholar of Sociology and Anthropology at Umass Amherst, will speak –along with a few other Kurdish people living in the Valley–after the film to kick off a discussion.

Forbes Library, Northampton

6:30-8:30 p.m.

This the only film in November. The library is closed on Nov. 27 because of Thanksgiving on the next day.
