Sunday, August 11 | 7pm - 8:30pm Visions of Peace: Our Annual Remembrance Nashawannuck Pond, Easthampton
Since 1980, led by Frances Crowe, we have commemorated the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Western Massachusetts. We will be holding the event again at Nashawannuck Pond (downtown Easthampton, at the intersection of Lake St. and Williston Ave.). This remembrance event brings people together not just to remember the past, but to reflect on the current existing threat of nuclear weapons that many experts have stated is greater than anytime in the last 60 years. The event will reiterate the call for an end to all nuclear weapons - and how you can take action to help make this a reality!
Our event will conclude with our floating lantern ceremony, in which lighted lanterns will be placed into the pond. Some children will have enclosed their written hopes for the future on these boats.
The event also acts as a celebration of life and our hopes for the future. There will be music, origami, speakers, free ice cream, and more!
