Professor and author Libby Garland on “LESSONS FROM HISTORY, CONNECTIONS FOR TODAY”
October 28, 2018
2 opportunities to hear Libby Garland on “LESSONS FROM HISTORY, CONNECTIONS FOR TODAY”, based on her book:
“AFTER THEY CLOSED THE GATES, JEWISH ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION TO THE UNITED STATES, 1921-1965”.
Please join us for either of these events:
Sunday October 28th, 4pm, Beit Ahavah, Florence, MA (followed by reception and book signing), or
Monday October 29th, 5:30 pm First Church Amherst (followed by monthly community sanctuary potluck with Lucio Perez at 6:30)

For many Jews this personal and collective history compels us to stand in solidarity with undocumented immigrants today who face injustice and deportation. For all of us, this piece of history stands out as one of many repeated and on going examples of racialized, restrictionist, discriminatory immigration policies that demand our engagement. Together we have the opportunity to deepen our understanding of what connects our history to our actions today.
